We are one

In a rare show of unity TNCC President Su Thirunavukkarasar, former State party Presidents EVKS Elangovan and KV Thankabalu marched together in a protest march organised by the Congress in Tiruppur on Friday, 14 Sep. AICC Gen Secretary Mukul Wasnik and Congress Secretary in-charge of Tamil Nadu, Sanjay S Dutt were also a part of the March.

It was an action packed day for the Congress in Tamil Nadu. The day started with a protest by the party in Coimbatore against the Rafale deal. Congress General Secretary Mukul Wasnik and TNCC President Su Thirunavukkarasar led the protests which saw participation of thousands of cadres.

The day also saw the appointment of Sirivella Prasad as AICC Secretary in-charge of Tamil Nadu.
The appointment of Jothimani Sennimalai from Karur to the Telangana Screening Committee of the party was another development.

The preceding few days saw Sanjay S Dutt touring different parts of the state, interacting with party functionaries and holding public demonstrations.

Sanjay Dutt himself was happy with the response to his tour of the state and tweeted

Led a massive Protest March of thousands, along with local MLAs’ & Leaders, in Nagercoil …

Actor and Congress National Spokesperson Khusbu Sundar tweeted to Sanjay Singh saying

Great to have you here amongst us..we were missing this constant action..

‘We are inspired. Your hardwork is definitely going to yield great results sir’

tweeted a party activist.

The Congress demonstrating its strength at the ground level with AICC leaders participating and State leaders coming together in solidarity has turned the focus on the party.

It remains to be seen, if the response to the first tour of Sanjay Dutt, the party Secretary in charge of the state, will enthuse the Congress to continue with the public interactions till elections are held.

While the Congress is formally with the DMK in the state, the party has received an open invitation from TTV Dhinakaran of AMMK to join its front. MNM President Kamal Haasan had a one hour one-to-one meeting with Rahul Gandhi in Delhi few months back where they discussed Tamil Nadu politics.

In this context, are these rallies an assessment of the Congress’s strength in the state by the high command, to explore alliance options?.

The next few months hold the answer to this.
